Apple dominates the smartphone market in the first quarter of 2022

The iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro Max are said to have taken the top two spots on the list of best-selling smartphones for the first quarter of 2022. This information comes from IDC analyst Francisco Jeronimo who shared a list of the top five smartphones the most sold in the first quarter of 2022. Another Apple device has found its way to this list in fourth position. The remaining two spots in third and fifth place were taken by handsets from Samsung.

The study indicates that the smartphone market was dominated by Apple in the first quarter of 2022, with the iPhone 13 taking the top spot. It is followed by the iPhone 13 Pro Max with a 6.7-inch second display. Meanwhile, the iPhone 13 Pro with a 6.1-inch screen was able to secure fourth place, which might suggest that Apple customers were willing to pay extra for a slightly larger screen.

Samsung also made its way onto this list with the low-end Galaxy A12 and Galaxy A32 smartphones which came in at 3rd and 5th respectively. Combined sales of these smartphones for the first quarter of 2022 would have generated $3.6 billion for the South Korean tech giant.

In the second quarter of last year, 60% of smartphones sold worldwide were midrange devices, according to Counterpoint. If Apple dominates on the high end, Android manufacturers, including Samsung, share the mid-range and entry-level segments. The 5th best-selling phone in the world is also part of the Galaxy A line. It is the Galaxy A32.
