Apple has just acquired the rights to the upcoming sci-fi feature film titled “Fingernails.” According to Deadline, the film was considered one of the most popular on the Cannes market in 2022. Well, the program will be broadcast worldwide, exclusively on Apple TV+.
A first film in English for Christos Nikou
The principle of “Fingernails”, whose main actors are Jessie Buckley and Riz Ahmed, is that a test can reveal if married couples are really in love. Establishments have been created to offer functional relationships, based on the results of these tests. Ahmed’s character, Trevor, works as a love coach. Buckley’s character, Anna, is skeptical of their success.
Cate Blanchett, Coco Francini and Andrew Upton of Dirty Movies will produce alongside FilmNation Entertainment. Jerome Duboz will be the executive producer. FilmNation will be the studio for the feature film, which will begin production later this year. This is the English language debut of director Christos Nikou.
Nikou’s debut film, Apples, premiered at the Venice Film Festival and became Greece’s official Oscar entry. Nkou co-wrote “Fingernails” with Apples co-writer Stavros Raptis and Sam Steiner.
Apple TV+’s movie division has truly had an unlimited budget lately with high-profile acquisitions and awards in spades. In March, Apple became the first streaming service to win the Best Picture Oscar for its film CODA. The service’s next premiere will be Cha Cha Real Smooth, which will be released on June 17 and which Apple acquired at Sundance.
As for “Fingernails”, the amount disbursed by the subsidiary Apple Original Movies was not disclosed.
